Prior to crossing over to counseling field, I have supported people with intellectual developmental disabilities for the past twenty three years. Communication takes many forms and I've learned to pay attention to both verbal and nonverbal cues. I'm patient, kind, and considerate. As the phrase goes, "only the squeaky wheel gets oiled," and everyone communicates in their own unique way and at their own pace. My counseling technique is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which means, if you alter your mind, the behavior will change as well.
In addition to CBT, I also focus on Holistic Approach. The Holistic Approach looks at the whole person, not just their mental health needs. The support also takes into consideration the person’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing. I am experienced in leading group therapy sessions that focused on personal development and strategies to calm your inner thoughts. By doing this, I have learned to value the uniqueness given to each session since it reflects where that person is in life.
